Themed Trail: Hartelsgraben
General Information
The Hartelsgraben is considered a natural jewel because of its impressive rock and water scenes and the canyon forest. It has been used economically for a long period of time: For 500 years a historic cabbage cart track has led from Johnsbach to Hieflau. From 1892 the Stmk. Landesforste had a timber transport road built down to the Enns - as the first mountain forest road in the monarchy it was much frequented. Particularly admirable are the dry-stone settlements, which were built by experts from Friuli. They have withstood all avalanches for 130 years. The Hartelsgraben is freely accessible in summer and winter. Please note the high avalanche danger with sufficient snow!
