Ski tours in the Gesäuse National Park:
Plan your tours in such a way that you are not in the terrain before sunrise and not before sunset!
Use the signposted parking spaces at the starting points!
Make sure that your dog stays close to you. Leashes are compulsory (according to the national security law)!
Keep to the winter markings and information boards. You will help the wild animals to survive the hard winter months more easily!
Trees and plants also fight for survival in winter. Do not destroy their trunks, tops and branches with your skis! Do not ski on rejuvenation areas (vegetation under 3m, no trespassing according to forest law)

Do you need rest?
Most species react already at approach distances of 300 meters and interrupt their current activity. Disturbances stop them from feeding or trigger escape. Especially in winter this weakens their condition considerably. Respecting the designated winter retreat areas therefore saves the lives of chamois and other wild animals!
Grouse
Capercaillie, black grouse and ptarmigan share the habitat with ski tour enthusiasts in winter. On cold days they move
are back in snow pits trying to save energy. If they are disturbed in their ancestral habitats, they flee
under great stress. They then have to spend the day in suboptimal conditions, without food, cold protection and cover.
