Volume 8: Alpine spaces
The study area between Gstatterboden (577 m) and the prominent elevation of the Großer Buchstein (2,224 m) is by no means only barren hostility to life, but is home to "Alpine Spaces" with species-rich flora and fauna. The first part gives insight into botanical mapping projects and historical aspects of "alpine pasture management" and "drift road construction" and tells interesting facts about the yellow-bellied toad (Bombina variegate).
The second part - the GEO Biodiversity Day around the Buchsteinhaus - is dedicated to the European Year of Volunteering 2011 and pays tribute to the many biologists who support National Park Gesäuse research with scientific know-how.
