The department store Kastner & Öhler has been a fixed part of Graz for over 150 years. Founded in 1873 by Carl Kastner and Hermann Öhler, the company moved to Sackstraße ten years later, where it still shapes the cityscape today. From a regional department store, it has grown over time into Austria's largest family-run fashion house.
Kastner & Öhler showed an early flair for innovation: fixed prices, catalog shipping, and later the first escalator in the city made the establishment a symbol of progress. The magnificent building by Fellner & Helmer from the turn of the century still combines tradition and modernity – with open galleries, light domes, and plenty of space for style.
On around 20,000 square meters, visitors can find fashion, accessories, beauty, and home ideas. Between the collections, a champagne bar invites guests to take a short break before continuing to stroll through the floors. At the top, the café Freiblick offers an impressive view over the city from its rooftop terrace.
Here, you will definitely find a place where generations of Graz residents have shopped.
