This variant of the Steiermark Wine Country Cycling Tour takes us from the spa town of Loiperdorf in theThermen- und Vulkanland (Spa and Volcano Country of Steiermark) to Gleisdorf in Oststeiermark, the Eastern part of Steiermark. This variant results in a 2-3 day round trip through Oststeiermarky with its Römerweinstraße. The route follows the Rittscheintalradweg R21, a real insider tip among cyclists.

In addition to several wine taverns and inns, so called Buschenschanken, there is also a culinary flagship directly on this variant of the Weinland Steiermark cycle tour, the Haberl & Fink's Delikatessen inn in Walkersdorf. A culinary experience in a class of its own awaits us here at Mario Haberl's inn with its walk-in wine cabinet, cosy parlours and beautifully landscaped garden. In the adjoining delicatessen manufactory, Bettina & Hans Peter Fink produce handmade pickled and preserved Styrian specialities from fresh fruit and vegetables. The assortment ranges from vinegars, chutneys, pestos, roasters and jams to rarities like pickled rowan berries. The delicacies are presented and sold in a farm-gate shop, where we also have the opportunity to taste the products.

In the village of Bad Loipersdorf, not far from the thermal bath of the same name, we turn east to cycle along the Rittscheintal cycle path R21 to the herb village of Söchau. In this idyllically situated village, a number of hotels and restaurants as well as a freely accessible herbal garden await you. From Söchau, the tour continues via Breitenfeld an der Rittschein to Walkersdorf, where another culinary highlight awaits us: Haberl & Fink's Delikatessen offers a walk-in wine cabinet, cosy snugs and a beautifully landscaped garden in the inn, and the adjoining delicacy manufactory produces hand-pickled and preserved Styrian specialities from fresh fruit and vegetables.

From Walkersdorf, the route continues leisurely along the Rittschein river via Markt Hartmannsdorf with its outdoor adventure pool to the Raabtalradweg cycle path, which leads from the natural park Almenland to Hungary. At the cycle path junction, we now keep to the right to head north into the small town of Gleisdorf with its small, fine centre around the imposing church on the main square. Here, we also rejoin the main route of the Styrian Wine Country Cycling Tour.
