At the Ebenforstalm, keep to the right on a meadow path that leads you slightly uphill to a forest section with a forest road. Climb this very steeply for a short while and on the other side descend again briefly but steeply and rooty to a forest road (this short section, together with the single trail section that follows, is the most difficult section on the Tans National Park, but can also be pushed well). Follow the forest road down serpentines to the right until you reach the Bodinggraben. Once in the ditch, follow the forest road to the left at a fork, pass the "Scheiblingau" car park and along the ditch you will reach the "Jagahäusl", the second stop on this stage.
At the Jagahäusl, continue straight ahead and turn left at the next fork in the forest road towards the Schaumbergalm. Follow the forest road (and not the footpath) uphill until you reach a left-hand bend where a small cart track leads straight ahead. Follow the path uphill into the valley, which becomes narrower and narrower. The path becomes smaller and smaller and, after a left-right bend, develops into the single trail passage already mentioned: Now the path is quite narrow and gravelly and leads upwards along the rather steep slope. This section can be ridden by experienced mountain bikers - however, due to the steep slope on the right, we recommend pushing the bike if in doubt (the loss of time is limited). After a while, the surface changes from gravel to forest soil and you reach the small "Steysteg" saddle, where you come across a forest road again.
Follow the forest road straight on and you will soon reach the beautifully situated bivouac site Steyrsteg and continue uphill over a final climb to the car park Haselgatter. Go through the car park and follow the forest road straight ahead on the other side, past the Kleiner farmstead, until you reach a crossroads with many signposts. Follow the signs and turn right here and then right again at the next opportunity after a few metres.
Before the next farm, turn left onto a meadow path. This leads into a narrower cart track and a forest road that takes you along the Salzabach stream through the Salzatal valley.
At the end of the road you come to a T-junction with a car park where you turn left towards Windischgarsten. Leave Villa Sonnwend on your right (or turn into the route here if you have stayed overnight at Villa Sonnwend). Now follow the larger road (Salzastrasse) into the village of Windischgarsten. Now you reach the main road, which you follow to the left for just a few metres before turning left again onto Ufergasse. Soon you turn right over the little bridge where a small alley brings you to the finish of this stage between the Grassecker bakery and the Kemmetmüller Hotel.
