The small Buchstein with 1990m is in no way inferior to its big brother in the Gesäuse. Yes, in order to reach its summit, even climbing experience is necessary. Lonely hike with fantastic views of the surrounding mountains through the Mühlbach valley up to the Sparerriegel, difficult climbing in the summit area and descent from the Sparerriegel to the Eisenzieher

Parking Mühlbach 645m - always along the path along the Mühlbach up - Otterriegel waypoint 1.485m - Sparerriegel waypoint 1.790m - Kleiner Buchstein 1990m

The path is well marked until the entrance to the summit wall. On the climbing route red colored dots help you to choose the right way.

On the descent, take the same path to the Sparerriegel, then go down to the left towards the Eisenzieher!

From the A9 "Pyhrnautobahn" take exit 67 "Ardning" and continue on the B146 to Ober-Hall. At the traffic circle turn off onto the B117 and continue via Weng im Gesäuse to St. Gallen. Before St.Gallen turn left in the direction of Grossreifling.

At the highest point on the Erbsattel, you can see the Kassegg Castle on the right and a little later the turning on the hiking trail is on the right.

Mühlbach car park 645 m – follow the path along the Mühlbach stream uphill – Otterriegel waypoint 1,485 m – Sparerriegel waypoint 1,790 m – Kleiner Buchstein 1,990 m . The path is well marked up to the start of the summit climb. Red dots on the climbing route help you choose the right path. On the descent, take the same route to Sparerriegel, then turn left towards Eisenzieher and descend to the car park in Griesbach (630 m).

Crossing as described invites you to stop at the Fischerhäusl!

A 2 car for shuttle service would be advantageous

by train and bus only to St.Gallen

By train or bus to Liezen. From there, take the Postbus to St. Gallen (bus stop "St. Gallen Hauptplatz").
