All About Wood
In the museum, you embark on a journey through time across four exhibition levels. And it quickly becomes clear: Much has revolved around wood in the Gesäuse region. Whether you see how timber was transported by land using hand pulls and sledges or simply dive into the world of the woodsmen, raftsmen, timber workers, and charcoal burners.
A little nugget of knowledge on the side: “To raft” means to float timber, referring to the transportation of wood by water. The Silvanum is definitely an experience with its interactive sled and raft ride, as well as a replica of a woodsman’s hut. It doesn’t even have to rain for it to be a highlight on a trip through the Gesäuse.
The 3D cinema on the third floor of the Forestry Museum personally welcomes you to the 3D nature cinema. There, after a wealth of information about wood, you’ll find a crowning conclusion with the world’s first macro 3D film.
Special Exhibition "Forest: Worlds"
The exhibition "Forest: Worlds" impressively addresses the challenges and changes that forests face due to climate change and human use. The museum employs modern methods of communication such as augmented reality, interactive stations, and digital media to engage visitors of all ages with the topic.
