Thomasniglo - Return of the Traditions 50 Years Ago

50 years ago, the tradition of "Thomasniglo" was revived in Gams, which had fallen into oblivion after the wars. Since then, the symbolic group of Thomasniglo has been on the move annually on December 21, St. Thomas' Day, and the longest night of the year.

The White Thomas (bringer of light), the Holy Thomas (patron saint of millers, light, and water in bishop form), the Nikolofrau, and the Sackträger, the old man (symbol of the departing year), the Thomashutzn (bird figure against evil), and several Krampusse are out in the darkness. They bring light and small gifts for children.

The appearance of the Thomasniglo and his companions differs from the usual Krampus revelry, and it is rather festive. The Gams brass band and the choir Singmazaum provide a reflective pre-Christmas hour.
