Stadtpfarrkirche
Bad Radkersburg
The core of the parish church of St. John the Baptist consists of a pillar basilica from the 14th century.
At the beginning of the 16th century, the magnificent main portal made of Aflenzer sandstone was constructed.
Decisive for the location of the entrance area on the east side was that both the church and the deanship had to fulfill defensive tasks.
On the west side of the tower, arrow slits can still be seen.
Upon entering the church through the main portal, one arrives at the south aisle via several steps.
The church has the floor plan of a three-nave Gothic basilica with a elongated, slightly elevated choir, which was built around 1400. Tombstones inside and on the outer wall bear witness to an old cemetery.
Here, we encounter the names of prominent families from Radkersburg, such as the Eggenbergers and the Wechslers.
Parallel to Langgasse runs the Pfarrgasse, which again merges into it with a slight curve.
The northeast corner of the town forms the Tabor.
In the center of the square stands a Florian's Column from the year 1774.
From here, one can access the courtyard of the museum of Bad Radkersburg.
