Beautiful winter hike up the Grundlseer Traun.

The winter hike from Bad Aussee to Grundlsee is a beautiful, easy to moderately challenging tour through the Styrian Salzkammergut – about 4.3 km long and taking around 1½ hours, perfect for peaceful winter days.

The trail starts at the Kurpark in Bad Aussee, leading through Kirchengasse and Tauscherin-Gasse, then continues through a small forest to the Waldpromenade. This section runs for about two kilometers upstream along the Traun River through light woodland. After approximately 300 meters, you reach your destination – the Seeklause at Grundlsee. The return follows the same route.

Along the way, there are several places to stop for refreshments, such as Gasthaus-SEEBLICK or Zloam-Wirt.

Tip: Shortly before reaching Grundlsee, you’ll enjoy a fantastic view of the frozen lake and the surrounding peaks (Loser, Backenstein).

Parking: Paid parking is available in the town center of Bad Aussee. Parken in Bad Aussee

From the eastern end of the Kurpark, the path crosses the Grundlseer Traun. Cross the parking lot and the municipal road on the left and continue along Tauscherin-Gasse to Gasteig.

Cross the Gasteig and about 100 meters further turn into the Richard-Eybner Promenade. After 200 meters, continue left through a wooded area. The path leads down to the district heating plant.

Cross the state road and follow the sidewalk further to the "Eiserner Steg" and thus to the beginning of the forest promenade. This now leads about two kilometers through sparse forest and a small settlement upstream to the Fischersteg. Cross the Traun and the main road here.

On the sidewalk, about 300 meters further, you come to the Seeklause.
