Coming from Graz

take the A9 Phyrnautobahn north, then S35 Brucker Schnellstraße and S6 Semmering Schnellstraße until exit Kapfenberg, then B20 (Mariazeller Bundesstraße) approx. 40 km north (signpost).

Alternative: S6 to exit St. Marein and then over the Pogusch to Turnau and from Au on the B20 towards Mariazell, before Mariazell turn right in Wegscheid.

Coming from Vienna

take the A1 Westautobahn to the St. Pölten Süd exit, then take the B20 (Mariazeller Bundesstraße) south for 76 km, either via Annaberg and Josefsberg or in Freiland turn left from the B20 onto the B21 and continue via Hohenberg and St. Aegyd through Halltal and Mariazell towards Gußwerk.

Alternative: Südautobahn A2 and S6 Semmering expressway to Mürzzuschlag, then via Neuberg and Mürzsteg on the L113 via Niederalpl to Aschbach.

Directions to the entry point:

In Wescheid turn off in the direction of Niederalpl/Mürzzuschlag, in Aschbach turn right into Rotsohlgraben and follow the road to the barrier.

From the parking lot at the Sommerauer homestead, this ski tour leads us into the valley, on the forest road past a game gate and always keeping left to the Bärentalhütte (hunting lodge). Up to the hunting lodge we always follow the forest road. Continue through a trough-shaped valley (possibly avalanche danger) to the Gingatzwiese. From here, head in a southwesterly direction to the high plateau of the Veitsch and to the summit. Attention: In fog, orientation from the Gingatzwiese to the summit is very difficult.

Don't forget your camera - possible encounter with chamois ;-)

Option 1: Postbus from Vienna main station to Mariazell, from there by cab to Aschbach

Option 2: ÖBB or Westbahn to St. Pölten, then change to the Mariazellerbahn to St. Sebastian, from there by cab to Aschbach

By train from Graz to Bruck/Mur station, then change to bus line 172 to Mariazell, from there by cab to Aschbach
