Winter Hike to the Grabneralm and Admonterhaus
Accessible by public transportCharacteristics
SkillThe tour in numbers
Some hike with snowshoes, others with skis. Either way, the tour to the Grabneralm meets all expectations. You start at Buchau (paid parking available) and make your way through forests and along forest roads. Even on the way up, the views are inspiring—and once you reach the top, all we can say is: Welcome to the balcony of the Gesäuse!
The Grabneralm is open in winter from Friday to Sunday in good weather and safe avalanche conditions (overnight stays not available). The Admonterhaus also opens occasionally, though it offers only very basic services. You’re welcome to call the hut manager at +43 664 92 03 679 for more information.

The route begins at the parking lot and follows the well-marked summer trail (Trail No. 636) through forest and along forest roads, taking about 1.5 hours to reach the Grabneralm. From there, it’s about another hour on foot to the Admonterhaus.
Always check the current weather and avalanche conditions before heading out on a winter mountain tour!
