SkillThe tour in numbers
This circular tour starts at the Stainach municipal office and leads over rolling terrain to Maitschern before the ascent to the Spechtenseehütte begins. A short detour to the idyllic Spechtensee is worthwhile before heading downhill through the shady Wörschachwald. The route then leads back to Stainach via Klachau and Untergrimming.
To protect wildlife (rest periods), the trails are only open during the following times:
- May 15 to August 31 from 08:00 to 18:00
- September 1 to September 30 from 08:00 to 17:00
The installation of the new MTB signage, which also includes updated loop numbers, is currently underway. These changes are already reflected in the new 2025 tour brochure. However, minor discrepancies may still occur on-site due to the presence of the old (green) signage. We kindly ask for your understanding.

More information
The tour starts directly at the municipal office in Stainach. From here, the route initially leads over rolling terrain towards Wörschach. Just before Wörschach, in the district of Maitschern, the path turns left towards Gasthof Weitgasser – an ideal spot for a short break and some refreshment.
From here, the more challenging part of the route begins: the Aicherlsteinweg leads uphill to the idyllic Spechtenseehütte. This is a perfect place to take a break and visit the Spechtensee – a wonderful spot to enjoy the tranquility of nature and recover from the climb.
After this refreshing stop, the route is almost entirely downhill through the Wörschachwald. Here, you immerse yourself in the quiet of the forest before passing under the B145 and reaching the small village of Klachau. A well-paved, asphalt path then leads to Untergrimming, where the route flattens out and becomes more relaxed.
After crossing the B145, you reach Unterburg and finally return to the starting point in Stainach.
Pack your swimming trunks! A jump into the Spechtensee offers the ideal cooling.
The next trainsstation is far away 5 kilometers.
In order to protect the game (resting periods), driving on the trails is only allowed during the following times:
- May 15 to August 31 from 08.00 a.m. to 06.00 p.m.
- September 1 to September 30 from 08.00 a.m. to 05.00 p.m.
