Bärnbach
Glass art, history, and live craftsmanship in fascinating architecture.
The Stoelzle Glass Center Bärnbach is an extraordinary place where over 200 years of glassmaking tradition merges with modern architecture and fascinating glass art. The striking building, created for the Styrian State Exhibition in 1988, impresses with its transparent structure and incorporates the historic generator house of the Bärnbach glassworks.
A diverse exhibition showcases over 300 carefully selected loans from renowned museums in Europe, providing an impressive overview of the stylistic diversity and high craftsmanship of glass production. The spectrum ranges from Murano through France and England to Slovenia, Croatia, and Central Europe – an impressive panorama of artisanal and artistic glass design.
A special experience is offered by guided tours through the glassworks, where visitors can observe how glass is produced using traditional hand techniques, by prior arrangement. The visible craftsmanship, the glowing furnaces, and the creative atmosphere make the visit a sensual experience.
The stay is rounded off by the year-round open shop featuring glass objects for every taste. Thus, the Glass Center is not only a place of history but also a vibrant venue for art, technology, and creativity in the Graz experience region.
