Kasemattenbühne

Graz

Above the rooftops of the old town, the Kasematten Schlossberg stage offers a unique setting for events.

The Schlossbergbühne Kasematten, often simply called "Kasematten," is one of the most distinctive open-air venues in Graz. It is located in the historic walls of the Schlossberg, in the former retinue and casemate part of the fortress complex, and combines the past with cultural present.

With a capacity of around 1,700 standing or 999 seated guests, the stage provides space for large concerts, cabaret, galas, or festivals. The stage itself measures about 100 m², and the event area spans 462 m². Since 2017, a glazed rear wall, in addition to a mobile roof, ensures that events can take place even in changing weather conditions.

The stage has deep historical roots: from 1937, it was developed into an open-air stage, and since then, operas, theater, and music performances have taken place here – among others, Beethoven’s “Fidelio” was performed at the opening. Over the years, renovations have been made, box spaces integrated, and technical adjustments implemented to meet modern requirements.

The interplay of architecture, light, and view makes the Kasematten a unique place – a true insider tip for cultural and event lovers in the Graz Region.
