Hofbäckerei Edegger-Tax

Graz

Tradition and craftsmanship in the Hofgasse.

In the Graz Hofgasse, the magnificent wooden portal of the Hofbäckerei Edegger-Tax immediately catches the eye. A gilded double-headed eagle adorns the entrance, leading visitors into a long tradition of baking.

Founded in 1569, the bakery is considered the oldest family-owned bakery in Graz today. In 1787, Matthias Tax took over the business and turned it into one of the most renowned in the city. In 1883, the bakery supplied the imperial court table and received the title of k. u. k. (imperial and royal) court baker in 1888. Since then, the name Edegger-Tax has stood for high-quality baked goods and excellent craftsmanship.

Today, this traditional family business is led by Robert Edegger, who, together with his family and team, continues to craft delicacies such as "Sissibusserl," "Kaiserzwieback," and fresh bread by hand. In addition to classics, seasonal specialties also appear on the table – always with the aim of combining traditional craftsmanship with modern accents.

The Hofbäckerei Edegger-Tax is more than just a popular place for fresh pastries – it is a piece of Graz's history and a meeting point for lovers of traditional bakery art.
