Berghofer Farmery

The farm known as Madl in Kalsdorf has existed since the 18th century. Generations of Berghofers have cultivated oil pumpkins in the south of Graz. While the original Styrian pumpkin seed oil was primarily produced from these pumpkins in the past, Josef Berghofer committed himself to the refinement of pumpkin seeds as early as the late nineties. Today, he is one of the few who operates a farmery – a combination of farm and factory. In this farmery, which is currently being expanded to three times its size, Josef Berghofer produces “Styrian Gourmet Snack Seeds” in many varieties. The special feature is that the gourmet snack seeds are roasted before being coated, as roasted simply tastes better.

Berghofer not only produces the “Styrian Gourmet Seeds” but also sells directly from the farm in Berghofer's shop located right at the farmery. Since May 2020, those who want to see for themselves have the opportunity to watch the production of the gourmet snack seeds live in the walk-in production area. Guided by specialists from the farmery, visitors gain deep insights and interesting background information about the refinement of Styrian pumpkin seeds.
