SkillThe tour in numbers
From the banks of the Mur River to the Almenland Nature Park – this tour rewards you with impressive mountain views of Rote Wand and Röthelstein. There are also plenty of opportunities to cool off along the way.
The tour starts and ends in the picturesque town of Frohnleiten – don’t miss a stroll through the historic center and a culinary break at one of the local restaurants.
This short but challenging cycling loop over the Heuberg is also ideal for gravel and mountain bikers. The diverse tour begins at Volkshauspark in Frohnleiten – a scenic park along the banks of the Mur River. From there, the route leads to Schrems. The trail then follows a stream steadily uphill to the small village of Tyrnau. After crossing the bridge, the route joins the signposted “Drachen” mountain bike tour and climbs via a forest road with switchbacks up to Heuberg.
After reaching the top, the route continues steeply downhill through the forest, descending around 350 meters in elevation, still along the Drachen tour. Along the way, you’ll enjoy impressive views of the Rote Wand and the Graz mountain region.
A short connection via the Murradweg (R2) leads to Tieber Lake. After crossing the new Mur cycle bridge and passing through Röthelstein, you arrive at a peaceful bathing pond – a great place for a refreshing swim and a snack break.
The return journey follows the right bank of the Mur River through Laufnitzdorf and Rothleiten, back to Frohnleiten. A walk through this charming
