Passion Plays in Feldkirchen

Saturday, 28 February 2026 - Sunday, 29 March 2026 Show all dates

A new production in Feldkirchen near Graz brings the Passion story into the present.

In the municipality of Feldkirchen near Graz in Styria, the well-known narrative of the Passion will be performed anew in 2026 – the Feldkirchen Passion Plays 2026 invite you to experience the suffering and death of Jesus Christ as a living encounter. At the center is not the romantic idea of love, but a force that carries, transforms, and heals – a common thread that runs through the entire play.

The plot symbolically begins with the baptism in the Jordan and the call to the world, then moves through the marketplace of Jerusalem, where hope and fear stand side by side. Jesus' compassion, his despair, his courage to the cross – all this is depicted. At the same time, figures like Caiaphas, Pilate, and Herod appear – powerful individuals torn between duty, fear, and responsibility. The people call out, question, and condemn – and perhaps recognize themselves.
The uniqueness of this production lies in seven dialogues that repeatedly interrupt the action. Voices that question, doubt, and contradict bring the historical events into the present. The questions of the past are our questions as well: What is truth? What is justice? What does love mean? In the familiar setting of Feldkirchen, an immediate atmosphere is created – viewers and participants form a community in the play space, close to each other, palpable to one another. The acting group enables this shared experience through voluntary commitment and a conscious choice to stage the Passion story as a reflection of our time.

The performances in 2026 therefore offer not only a religious play but an invitation: an encounter with oneself, with others, and with the mystery of faith. In the Graz Region, this play takes its firm place as a cultural and spiritual station – embedded in Styrian landscape and community. Anyone seeking an authentic experience can immerse themselves here in a story that is familiar yet new – and that reflects great things in small ways.

This performance, which takes place only every three years, is more than a theater piece; it is a confession, a testimony, and an invitation to inner contemplation.
Tickets can be reserved online.
