Experience and pleasure show garden
Experience garden with pond system, old fruit varieties & herbs invites you to a free visit.
On April 25 (Day of the Orchard Meadow) and on June 28 (Open House – Nature in the Garden), the Nature and Culinary Showcase Garden in Styria will open its gates for two special days. In this nature-oriented facility, a spacious pond area with water insects, plankton, noble crayfish, and fish unites with an orchard meadow featuring around 90 old fruit and berry varieties. Healing and culinary herbs complement the scenery – ideal for discovery, tasting, and learning.
The event targets both garden and nature enthusiasts as well as families who wish to explore the Graz region and the diverse cultural landscape of Styria. Free admission makes this outing particularly straightforward. Guided tours are also available outside of these two days. Groups of 5 to a maximum of 20 people can be guided through the facility by prior arrangement.
The old orchard picks up on a well-established Styrian tradition: tall fruit trees stand in a loose structure, offering space for biodiversity and creating a calm atmosphere. The pond and water area invite close observation: small aquatic inhabitants like plankton or noble crayfish are native here – a reflection of the lively interplay between garden, nature, and water.
The facility is entirely focused on sustainable design and nature-oriented gardening concepts. Topics actively promoted in the region by the Nature in the Garden initiative. The two opening days offer opportunities for tasting: Visitors can enjoy and get inspired by how a traditional orchard meadow functions in practice, using the old fruit and berry stock. Additionally, in June, early summer development in the pond area can be observed; perhaps young animals will make an appearance or the first plant movements – an added experience for nature lovers.
A visit to this garden facility means: discovering nature at every step, determining one’s own pace, and remaining open to the unexpected. Not a commercial event, but a place of encounter with garden, water, fruit, and nature – right in the heart of Styria, amid the Graz experience region. Individual guided tours can be arranged for groups upon request, making this offer suitable for school classes, clubs, or groups of friends.
