Stage 06 Enns Cycle Path Steyr - Enns
Accessible by public transportCharacteristics
SkillThe tour in numbers
From Steyr’s main square, our final stage leads us through the ever-widening landscapes of the Alpine foothills to Enns – partly on asphalt, partly on well-maintained paths. Note: there are alternatives here as well, since the Enns forms the border between Upper Austria and Lower Austria, leaving us free to choose on which side we wish to cycle.

From Steyr, it is possible to cycle to Austria’s oldest town, Enns, on either side of the river. We have chosen the route on the Upper Austrian side. We therefore leave Steyr heading north towards Dornach, where at the TIC Steyr (Technology & Innovation Centre) there is also the option of crossing to the right bank into Lower Austria. Our route continues along the high bank via Staning and Plaik to Kronstorf. At the entrance to Unterhaus we turn left into a residential street, ride through a small stretch of forest, and reach Thaling.
We now follow the cycle path onwards to the town of Enns with its historic centre. Our cycle tour through three provinces and an incredibly diverse landscape ends here at the railway station. Six days that began in the rugged, mighty mountains, took us through the Gesäuse, and finally brought us to the town of Enns. Accompanied all the way by culinary delights, warm-hearted people, and historic sights.
In Enns, it is worth riding the short distance to the ferry across the Danube to Mauthausen, and from there following the Danube Cycle Path upstream to Linz. Once in Linz, European Capital of Culture 2009, the Austrian Federal Railways provide a convenient return connection to our starting point in Radstadt/Flachau.
