More information

From Vienna: West motorway A1 to Amstetten; federal road B121 via Waidhofen a.d. Ybbs to Weyer Markt; federal road B115 via Altenmark to Großreifling; state road L714 to Palfau.

From Salzburg/Linz: West highway A1 to Enns; federal road 115 via Steyr, Großraming, Altenmarkt to Großreifling; state road L714 to Palfau.

From Graz/Klagenfurt: Motorway A9 to Traboch; federal road 115 via Trofaiach, Vordernberg, Präbichl, Eisenerz, Hieflau to Landl; federal road B25 via Mooslandl, Gams b. Hieflau to Palfau.

From the "Stiegenwirt" drive in the direction of Gams and about 2 km take the 2 left until the end of the road.

Very well signposted we follow the signs from the end of the road to the lookout point Aberg.

Immediately after bend 1 the footpath branches off in the direction of the east. Follow the marked path until it crosses the forest path at the crossing Palfau/Reiteralm/Eschau. After crossing the forest path on the moderately rising path to the Eschau forest hut, follow the forest path leading from Gams in the direction of Akogelbauer until the "Gesäuseblick" junction.

Follow the marked path further in a northerly direction over a steep mountain slope covered with high forest to the Reiteralm, then take the forest path leading across the alpine pasture of the Reiteralm to the fork in the forest path, where you turn left into the Augraben (not signposted and a little difficult but beautiful) and continue down into the valley, keeping left until you reach the starting point.

On the way back you can also stay on the Luchstrail and go back to the starting point through the village, but the Augraben is adventurous:

Or you can go down through the Nothklamm to Gams!
