This hikeable natural area in the middle of the Rottenmanner Tauern in the Murtal adventure region is a scenic jewel. The ridge hike to the three peaks with the deep views to the cirques and lakes make the heart of every hiker beat faster. It is not surprising that the 2448 meter high Großer Bösenstein is climbed by numerous hikers every year. On clear days, the view from the highest mountain in the Murtal region extends to a large part of the Styrian mountains. On this hike, you should take time for breaks, as the views along the ridge trail to the Scheibel lakes and to the surrounding peaks invite you to enjoy. When hiking here, the quote from Goethe is apt: "Mountains are silent masters and make silent disciples".

From Judenburg via B114 turnoff in Hohentauern right direction Edelrautehütte, toll Road € 8,00 (50 km, approx. 45 minutes).
We start at the parking lot and hike past the Scheibelalm on the right to the Edelrautehütte (1706 m), where the trail continues to the left. Slightly uphill we follow the trail to the Großer Scheibelsee and continue to the right until we reach the saddle. We keep left, cross a slope and reach the second steep step via serpentines. We now choose the difficult route via the east ridge (path 946) and reach the Großer Bösenstein (2448 m) via boulders (clear traces and markings). The descent along trail 944 leads over rocky steps to the Elendscharte and, staying on the ridge line, uphill to the Kleiner Bösenstein (2396 m). The further course of the path is clear and tends to descend to the Großer Hengst (2159 m). Last but not least, we reach the timberline and follow the trail downhill to the Scheibelalm and the starting point.
In the Murtal region there are three free hiking maps that show the entire region with the Seetaler Alps, Seckauer-, Wölzer-, Rottenmanner Tauern, Stubalpe and the Pöls- and Murtal. The maps are in scale 1.50.000.
