Burgruine Eppenstein

Weißkirchen

Visit the well-maintained ruin, which is accessible via several walking and hiking trails.

The Eppenstein Castle Ruins, whose history dates back to around 1000 AD, were once an important fortification on the border between Carinthia and Styria. Today, the ruins are well preserved thanks to the dedicated castle association and can be easily accessed via several hiking trails. From there, one enjoys a breathtaking view of the Murtal valley and the surrounding mountain panorama. Benches and tables invite visitors to linger.

A special highlight is the newly constructed Skywalk: The approximately nine-meter-long and one-and-a-half-meter-wide platform juts out five meters over the abyss and offers a magnificent view over the Murtal valley, reaching westward to the Falkenberg and Tremmelberg. This modern panoramic element makes the visit to the Eppenstein Castle Ruins an unforgettable experience, impressively combining history and nature.
