A hike to the highest peak of the Hochschwab range in Upper Styria – at 2,277 metres, it offers magnificent views and an almost guaranteed chance to spot wildlife!

A slightly more challenging mountain tour to the Hochschwab, offering fantastic panoramic views and excellent places to stop for a break – such as the Schiestlhaus.

Take the exit from the S6 expressway at Mürzzuschlag, then continue through Neuberg an der Mürz, over the Niederalpl Pass, and in the direction of Wildalpen.

We start at the parking area on the old federal road (Alte Bundesstraße) in Weichselboden and begin our hike toward Saatstatt, continuing on to the Edelbodenalm. From there, we ascend the Kleiner Hochschwab, reaching an elevation of 2,248 metres, and push onward to the Hochschwab summit at 2,277 metres.

Accompanied by breathtaking views, the route continues until we reach the Schiestlhaus after approximately 11.3 km. This is the perfect place to take a well-earned break and enjoy the delights of its gourmet kitchen.

The return route leads us back via the Edelbodenalm and Saatstatt, eventually bringing us full circle to Weichselboden.

Be sure to step inside the Schiestlhaus and embark on a culinary journey!
