Fölz-Fölzalm-Voisthalerhütte-Hochschwab
Accessible by public transportCharacteristics
SkillThe tour in numbers
From the car park in the Fölz, the route first takes you leisurely along the passable road to the small water-bearing Fölzklamm gorge, before it gradually begins to climb more steeply in the forest. After the forest section, you have your first beautiful view of the Fölzstein. After a 2-hour walk, you reach the idyllic Fölzalm, surrounded by an impressive mountain backdrop. Here, the Grasserhütte invites you to stop for refreshments.
Meadow paths now lead to the Fölzsattel, where the Ochsensteig trail leads left towards the Voisthalerhütte. This refuge is reached after a further hour's walk. It's worth stopping for a bite to eat here again.
From the Voisthalerhütte, continue along the Graf Meran Steig to the Schiestlhaus. Here it gets rockier and you have to make a lot of metres in altitude. Gradually, you continue up towards the high plateau and can already see the summit. After around four and a half hours of walking, you reach the Schiestlhaus, from where it is around 20 minutes' walk to the Hochschwab summit cross.

The Fölzalm, framed by climbing rocks such as the Winkelkogel or the Schartenspitze, is a popular photo motif. The Grasserhütte is famous for its homemade strudel soups, which will fortify you for the rest of the ascent. The mountain tour can also be planned with an overnight stay at the Schiestlhaus. A sunrise on the Hochschwab summit is a special experience.
