We start at the village square in Mitterbach and walk past the Protestant church up Kapschgasse. After about 600 minutes, we turn slightly right onto a forest road and follow it downhill to the junction with the hiking trail in the direction of the Erlaufstaussee. Turn right here and pass the Hirschfeldspitz to reach the Erlaufstause tavern (closed in winter) with a magnificent view of the Ötscher. Follow the sidewalk along the B20 back to the village square.

At the Hirschfeldspitz turn left and follow the water path along the display boards of the fish nature trail.
