Heartly welcome at our beautiful mountain hut “Schneealpenhaus”.
The Schneealpenhaus is a shelter of the Austiran Alpine Association in the Mürzsteger Alps in the Styrian-Lower Austrian border region. It was opened in 1925 on the Schauerkogel at 1788m above sea level, which is why locals like to call it the Schauerkogelhaus.
The extensively area of the “Schneealm“ offers you numerous possibilities for ascent and touring, from the simple day hike with the whole family to the challenging multi-day tour. Also by mountain bike, whether with or without electricity, we are easily accessible. Arriving at our place, you have a breathtakingly view of the surrounding mountains in the middle of the Mürzer Oberland Nature Park.
After your ascent you have definitely earned some refreshments.
Hut Cuisine
Sustainability is particularly important to us, which is why we source the majority of our products directly from farmers and producers in the region. In addition to our hut classics such as pork joint, venison stew and our homemade strudels, we also want to provide variety on our menu with seasonal highlights. Even vegetarians and vegans will be fully satisfied with our diverse menu.
You can enjoy our delicacies outside on the panorama terrace with stunning view of the surrounding mountains. On cooler days, our cosy an quint room with wood stove invites you to linger.

Good to know…
For a great service and experience in our mountain hut, we like to inform you about some rules:
- We offer hot food until 7 pm daily. After 7 pm we only have soups or sweets.
- Breakfast time is from 7 am till 8:30 am. If you want to leave early or do not need breakfast, please let us know the night before.
- We kindly ask you to reserve your sleeping place in advance
- In all rooms you have to use a sleeping bag.
- Nights rest is from 10 pm.
- An overnight stay with dog is only possible with advance reservation and surcharge of € 10,- per dog. The dog a bowl with water as well. The blanket is to be brought by the animal owner
- As our hut is neither connected to an electricity network nor to a drinking water supply, in fact of that we pleading you for a thrifty use electricity and water. Furthermore, in the hut is no possibility for a shower.
- Smoking and working with open fire are strictly forbidden in the entire hut.
