When winter arrives and the world is quietly covered with a blanket of snow, a very special time begins. Everything around us becomes a little quieter and slower as the first flakes fall from the sky. Warm fires burn in the fireplaces, inviting us to linger, and the scent of candles and fir branches fills the air. Winter is a cozy season, a moment of deceleration and rest for nature, which gathers new strength for its blooming in spring. Amidst the biting cold of winter, we celebrate a festival of joy, love, and family: Christmas.
The traditions surrounding Christmas are diverse: In Norway, Christmas is announced by the bells of Christmas Eve that ring out across the country. The traditionally Norwegian song "Kling no, klokka" sings about these Christmas bells that announce the Christmas celebration and proclaim the joy that the birth of Jesus has brought to people. In Catalonia, it is not the bells that announce traditionally, but more than 30 species of birds that herald the birth of Jesus in the song "El chant des ocells," which has become a secret Catalan national anthem. And the Norwegian song "I denne søte juletid" also speaks of the joy of the birth of Jesus, who came to Earth to ease the pain of humanity and save them.
