From the mountain station of the Tauplitzalm gondola, a groomed walking trail leads to the Lawinenstein summit (1,965 m), offering a fantastic 360° panoramic mountain view.
The return route follows the same path, with an optional stop at the Kriemandlhütte for refreshments.

Winter Hike to the Lawinenstein
The hike follows a groomed walking trail leading to the summit of the Lawinenstein.
From the top, you can enjoy a magnificent 360° panoramic view stretching from the Grimming to the Dachstein, the Totes Gebirge, and the Sturzhahn.

Access to the Skibus der Tauplitzalm Alpenstraße.possible either by private car or by Tauplitzalm ski bus via the alpine road. Even the 8-seater gondola ride offers wonderful views of Bad Mitterndorf Valley, the Grimming, the Dachstein, and the Tauplitzalm ski area.

After getting off at the mountain station, follow the blue signs straight ahead and slightly downhill. Passing the valley station of the summit lift, the path continues on the right-hand side of the lift up to the Lawinenstein summit (1,965 m). Near the summit cross, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of Lake Grundlsee, the Totes Gebirge, the Grimming, and the Ennstal Valley.

The return route follows the same path back. Passing the mountain station again, take the trail left of the drag lift down into a small hollow toward the connecting lift. Along the ski slope, the path leads up to the Kriemandlhütte, where you can stop for a relaxing break before returning to the gondola.

It is best to plan your journey to Bad Mitterndorf with google.at/maps.  

You can either drive up to the valley station of the gondola lift in your own car or take the Tauplitzalm Alpenstraße ski bus.

The ride on the 8-seater gondola lift offers the first views of the Bad Mitterndorf valley, the Grimming, Dachstein and the Tauplitzalm ski area.

After getting off at the mountain station, walk straight down into a hollow and follow the blue signs. Past the valley station of the summit lift, the trail leads on the right-hand side of the lift to the summit of the Lawinenstein at 1,965 m. From near the summit cross, you can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view of Grundlsee, the Totes Gebirge, Grimming and Ennstal.

The same route then leads back again. Passing the gondola lift mountain station and to the left of the T-bar lift, the trail leads down into a valley to the cable connecting lift and along the edge of the ski slope up to the Kriemandlhütte.

After a leisurely stop for refreshments, return to the gondola lift.

There are plenty of free parking spaces available at the toll booth in Bad Mitterndorf and at the gondola lift.
