The approximately 15 km long ski tour to the Große Tragl is classified as moderately difficult and requires both technical skill and strong physical fitness. The entire tour takes about 3 hours and 50 minutes. The ascent leads across the Tauplitzalm plateau, past the Steirersee huts, up to the Traglhals and on to the summit.

The descent is spectacular, passing through the so-called “Geisterwald” (Ghost Forest) and over the Haberboden back to the Tauplitzalm. The route offers magnificent views and challenging terrain with traverses and forest sections.
Free parking is available in Tauplitz and on the Tauplitzalm.
Several cozy huts invite you to relax after the tour, such as the
Almrauschütte, the Alpenhotel or the Hollhaus.

The best way to plan your journey to the Tauplitzalm is with google.at/maps.

A ten-kilometer toll road leads from Bad Mitterndorf to the Tauplitzalm.

Standard ascent to the Große Tragl along the ski ascent tracks: The ski tour starts at the Tauplitzalm parking lot at the end of the toll Tauplitzalm Alpine road. First past the Hollhaus and across the alpine plateau in an easterly direction. Shortly before the Steirersee, there is the first short descent towards the Steirerseehütten.

Left past the huts, along the foothills of the Sturzhahn uphill always following the winter markings. Under the rock walls up to the Traglhals. At the Traglhals keep sharp left and continue to the summit of the Großer Tragl. You will be rewarded for the ascent with a wonderful panoramic view.

Descent: from the summit keep left to the saddle and into the Haberboden. Partly steep, partly flat descent through Langkar to Ödernalm. Renewed (steep) ascent northeast-sided in the direction of Großsee to Tauplitzalm.

Avalanche-safe conditions necessary due to the steep slope crossing on the descent!

The Tauplitzalm is an ideal starting point for numerous ski tours.
At the end of the Tauplitzalm alpine road there is a large parking lot where there is enough parking space.
