The approximately 15 km long, moderately difficult ski tour to Große Tragl takes about 4 hours and requires both fitness and technique. The route leads across the Tauplitzalm and up Traglhals before reaching the summit, followed by a spectacular descent through the “Geisterwald” and the Haberboden. Free parking and cozy places to stop, such as the Almrauschhütte, the Alpenhotel, or the Hollhaus, are available.
The
approximately 15 km long ski tour to the Große Tragl is classified as
moderately difficult and requires both technical skill and strong physical
fitness. The entire tour takes about 3 hours and 50 minutes. The ascent leads
across the Tauplitzalm plateau, past the Steirersee huts, up to the Traglhals
and on to the summit.
The
descent is spectacular, passing through the so-called “Geisterwald”
(Ghost Forest) and over the Haberboden back to the Tauplitzalm. The route
offers magnificent views and challenging terrain with traverses and forest
sections.
Free parking is available in Tauplitz and on the Tauplitzalm.
Several cozy huts invite you to relax after the tour, such as the Almrauschütte, the Alpenhotel
or the Hollhaus.

A ten-kilometer toll road leads from Bad Mitterndorf to the Tauplitzalm.
Left past the huts, along the foothills of the Sturzhahn uphill always following the winter markings. Under the rock walls up to the Traglhals. At the Traglhals keep sharp left and continue to the summit of the Großer Tragl. You will be rewarded for the ascent with a wonderful panoramic view.
Descent: from the summit keep left to the saddle and into the Haberboden. Partly steep, partly flat descent through Langkar to Ödernalm. Renewed (steep) ascent northeast-sided in the direction of Großsee to Tauplitzalm.
Avalanche-safe conditions necessary due to the steep slope crossing on the descent!
