The ski tour to the Tauplitzalm via the “old
Almweg” is one of the classic ascent routes in the Ausseerland region.
It is about 11.9 km long, with an elevation gain of around 700 meters, and is
rated as easy to moderately difficult – ideal for fit beginners and
leisure tourers.
The ascent starts in the village of Tauplitz and follows the
old forest road through snow-covered woods up to the Tauplitzalm. At the top, a
breathtaking panorama opens up with views of the Grimming and the
surrounding mountain landscape.
This route offers a peaceful, nature-oriented alternative to piste ascents and
is especially recommended under stable snow conditions.
Please note the ascent restrictions on the ski slopes and always check Lawinenhinweise
Up-to-date information on open slopes can be found on the interaktive Pistenplan. (Between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m., the slopes are closed due to the dangers associated with grooming operations.)

Below the Pfannerhütte, turn right onto the forest road
We kindly ask you not to walk between the private houses and their private grounds
Please observe the ban on ascending the slopes!
Pass under the cable car and at the fork continue straight ahead along the ascent track. In several curves, the trail now goes moderately steep uphill to another fork in the road. Here follow the signs to the right "Tauplitz Weg Nr. 276". Cross the lift line again and continue to follow the ascent track.
The terrain now becomes increasingly flatter until you reach the Tauplitzalm alpine plateau. Here you can already see the destination of the tour, the mountain station of the 4-seater chairlift Tauplitz.
For the descent, the groomed slopes to Tauplitz and Bad Mitterndorf are available during the day. The interactive piste map provides information about the open pistes. (Between 17.00 and 08.00 the slopes are closed due to the dangers posed by slope preparation work!)
From the train station Tauplitz to the valley station of the 4-seater chairlift is about 30 minutes walk. The bus stop is located directly in the center of the village by the church. It is a 10-minute walk to the starting point.
