The approximately 14 km long, moderately difficult ski tour to the Rosskogel takes about 5½ hours and requires good physical fitness. Starting from the parking area on the Tauplitzalm, the route leads past Lake Steirersee and Lake Schwarzensee up to the summit, offering magnificent views of the Grimming, the "Dachstein massif", and the Totes Gebirge. Under good conditions, steeper descents west of the summit are possible; the return follows the same route as the ascent.

The approximately 14 km long route takes about 5½ hours and is classified as moderately difficult, requiring good physical condition.
The ski tour starts at the Tauplitzalm parking area at the end of the toll Tauplitzalm Alpine Road. Shortly before reaching Lake Steirersee, there is a short descent to the Steirersee huts and the lake itself. The route then continues toward Lake Schwarzensee.
The tour offers breathtaking views of peaks such as the Grimming, the  Dachstein and the mountain range „Totes Gebirge“. There are various options to extend the tour, and under good conditions, the steeper slopes west of the summit can be skied. The descent through larch forests down to Lake Schwarzensee is particularly beautiful, with the return following the same route back to the parking area.

The best way to plan your journey to the Tauplitzalm is with google.at/maps.

A ten-kilometer toll road leads from Bad Mitterndorf to the Tauplitzalm.

The ski tour starts at the Tauplitzalm parking lot at the end of the toll Tauplitzalm Alpine road.

First past the Hollhaus and across the alpine plateau in an easterly direction. Shortly before the Steirersee there is the first short descent towards the Steirerseehütten and the Steirersee. Continue in the direction of Schwarzensee. Passing the huts in the Leistalm, the route continues towards Kamphütten, keeping to the right over the less steep ridge to the summit of the Rosskogel.

In good conditions, the steeper slopes further west of the summit can be skied. Fantastic foothills through the larch forest down to the Schwarzensee.

From here, the same path leads back to the parking lot.

Heinrich Harrer (Seven Years in Tibet) was a hut warden at the Grazerhütte and also founded a ski school on the Tauplitzalm.
At the end of the Tauplitzalm alpine road there is a large parking lot where there is enough parking space.
