The forest trail at the Salza reservoir is a short but varied circular hiking trail in Ausseerland, which is particularly suitable for a short discovery tour. The nature trail was created in July 1991 on the initiative of Dir. Eduard Sulzbacher and provides interesting facts about the flora, fauna and landscape of the Eckwald forest at ten stations.
The trail starts shortly after the entrance to Bad Heilbrunn, on the left before the Salza reservoir. From there, the trail leads to the right in an anti-clockwise direction around the Eckwald forest. In a southerly direction, you descend to the banks of the Salza reservoir and then climb quickly uphill via serpentines.
The partly rocky terrain offers several beautiful views of the lake below. The trail follows easy-to-walk paths through an idyllic mixed forest, accompanied by wooden figures and information boards that provide fascinating details about the habitats.
The ten stations of the nature trail
1. view of the Salzamündung nature reserve
2. in the spruce and fir forest
3. at the wayside shrine of the woodworker who died in an accident
4. on the banks of the Salza reservoir
5. in front of the steep slope - serpentine path
6. rest on the steep slope
7. view of the Kammspitze (2,139 meters)
8. mixed forest with maple, beech, larch, spruce and fir trees
9. forest block with a wetland biotope
10. forest meadow habitat - view to the Kulm
