The 6 Lakes Tour is one of the most impressive and varied circular mountain bike tours in Ausseerland, connecting six of the region's most beautiful bodies of water: Altausseer See, Grundlsee, Toplitzsee, Salza Stausee, Ödensee and Hallstättersee. This extensive tour combines enjoyment of nature, sporting challenges and impressive views in a unique route.

The starting point is the Scheichelmühle in Altaussee. From there, turn left to Lake Altaussee, where you turn right onto a gravel road at the beach café. The route leads past the campsite on asphalt towards Obertressen and on through the Hennermannwald forest to the road at Grundlsee. Cycle along the shore to Gößl and at the traffic circle continue to Toplitzsee, which can be reached via a gravel road from Gasthof Veit.

After returning to Grundlsee, turn left towards the district of Wienern. After the JUFA Hotel, the route follows the signs for BergeSeen Trail and Salza Runde. A steep, longer ascent leads up to Klaushöfl and past the Salza Alm and Kochalm to Bad Mitterndorf. In the town center, turn right past the municipal office and information office. Then turn left towards Bad Heilbrunn and the Salza reservoir.

Head towards Kraglhütte and follow the gravel road to Steinitzenalm. Then downhill to the Mühlreith district near Pichl-Kainisch, then left towards Ödensee. Cycle around the lake and then follow the road to the fish farm. Turn left onto the cycle path along the Kainischtraun to the carpentry business in Bad Aussee.

From there, take Sießreithstraße to the soccer pitch, turn left to Bad Aussee railroad station, then follow the main road towards Obertraun. After about three kilometers, a gravel road branches off to the right to Koppentraun, which you follow to Gasthof Koppenrast.

From here, the R2 Salzkammergut Cycle Trail leads through the Koppenwinkel to Obertraun and continues along the eastern shore of Lake Hallstatt to Steeg. After crossing the B145 in St. Agatha, the route leads to the Halleralm and uphill to the right on the Leisling forest road to Oberlupitsch. Continue over the Waldgraben and past the Pflindsberg ruins back to Altaussee. Turn right at the Reischenböck nursery and return to the starting point at the Scheichelmühle.

This tour is an absolute highlight for a mountain bike vacation in Ausseerland - a combination of sporting challenges, natural biking, lake scenery and panoramic trails.

The tour can also be ridden in individual stages.
