The Bad Mitterndorf Legend Trail impressively combines the experience of nature, cultural history and the creative imagination of young people. Created as part of the Salzkammergut Capital of Culture 2024, this special themed trail is the result of a school project at Bad Mitterndorf elementary school. The 9 to 10-year-old pupils processed their impressions of the impressive mountain world of Ausseerland into exciting legends about the mysterious origins of their homeland.
The start of the Legend Trail is on the Passeggerweg, which also leads to the famous Simonywarte. A world full of magic and childlike fantasy opens up right from the start. Along the easily accessible hiking trail, hikers can immerse themselves in imaginatively illustrated stories at several stations. The stories can also be experienced acoustically via QR codes - a real highlight for families with children.
The path winds gently through meadows and forests, past beautiful views of the mountains. The lovingly designed boards tell of legendary creatures, ancient customs and mystical events. The way back leads through the district of Thörl before returning to the center of Bad Mitterndorf.
The easy route without major differences in altitude makes the circular trail particularly suitable for family hikes in Ausseerland. The interplay of hiking experience, cultural mediation and creativity gives the trail a very special charm.
