Parade of the "Altausseer Trommelweiber"
The drum women, consisting of ladies and partially male musicians, march through the town with the carnival march.
Unlike in the other Ausseerland towns, women actually participate as drum maidens in Altaussee.
Dressed in nightgowns from past centuries, the drum maidens aim to drive the winter out of the village with drums and trumpets. In earlier times, it was believed that natural forces, such as winter, could be chased away with noise.
The drum maidens parade through Altaussee on Fasching Monday to the melody of the "Ausseer Fasching March," which is accompanied by a rhythm that can be heard in every corner of Ausseerland during the three "holy" Fasching days.
The handover of the keys at the Altaussee municipal office takes place around midday.
