Drinks stand at the PELZBERIGL in Altaussee
Mulled wine and punch stand in front of Schneiderwirt during the Winter Scaring with the Altaussee fur-trimmers.
With the onset of darkness on January 5th, there is a special commotion in the town center of Altaussee. In the meadow next to the Gasthaus Schneiderwirt, the Winter-Austreiben takes place.
The "Pelzberigln", disguised men in dirndl skirts and furry tops, symbolize winter, while the "Glöcklbuben", local boys of school age, represent spring.
The spring wants to make its entrance, but the winter resists. For this reason, there is a scuffle between the Pelzberigln and the Glöcklbuben, during which the children are wrestled in the snow by the Berigln. In the end, winter (Pelzberigln) wins, as it is still January and spring (Glöcklbuben) must wait.
This special spectacle at the beginning of the year has been part of the Altaussee tradition for decades and should not be missed.
For the spectators, a warming mulled wine and punch will be served in front of the Gasthaus Schneiderwirt.
