Carnival parade "Altausseer Knopferln"

Sa., 14.02.2026 14:00 O'clock

The Knopferln accompany the children's carnival parade before the group continues through the town center.

The honorable Knopferln zu alten Aussee look back on a very significant history.

The Knopferln are anxious to be a link - between the most diverse traditions. Between the carnival strongholds of Altaussee, Bad Aussee and Ebensee, between the various professions, occupations and classes. The lovingly decorated garments with symbols of the profession or leisure activities represent a link to the Ausseer Flinserln, the black ruff and the three-colored pelerine are based on the Altaussee miners' uniform, in which both the mining colors black and green can be found, as well as gold (for the sunny nature of the buttons) and red.

Some of the knobs are masked and some are unmasked. The masked ones wear elaborately crafted masks made from local lime, which were created by Ebensee sculptor and creator of numerous local Fetzen-Larven Rupert Dygruber. Those not wearing masks have their faces painted in green, black, red and gold. The Aussee hat with the golden ribbon is intended to symbolize the connection between the former salt mining town of Aussee and the Altaussee salt mine.

On their “Paradise Day”, the Knopferl wander through Altaussee, respectfully swinging their fishing rods, which are a reminiscence of the Altaussee fishermen, to give the children sweets and nuts.
